Fort Myers Florida real estate is my hobby, my passion and my business. I live it, breathe it and love it.

I simply love what I do every day. It is not a job to me. It is part of who I am. I've been doing this for over 20 years and have made a lot of wonderful friends.

Many people think that Realtors who shout from billboards, newspapers and other media are the best. But, that isn't necessarily so. Most of those Realtors are very busy marketing themselves and don't really have a personal interest in you. They have teams of people to "process" you. Real estate is their "business". They are always searching for the next customer. The keyword is "next."

Think about it. A Realtor whose hobby is real estate is someone who truly enjoys serving individual people to help them buy or sell a home. They are very knowledgeable and keep abreast of the happenings in their area of expertise. . .not because they have to, but because they want to. They love to share what they know on a personal basis and tend to do so without provocation. Generally, they specialize in a particular area and don't try to sell the "world".

Maybe the next time you need to buy or sell a home, rather than ask a Realtor how much he/she sold, or how many credentials he/she has, or how many awards he/she won, you should ask, "What's your hobby?"

It just makes sense! A Realtor whose hobby is real estate is more interested in promoting your interests instead of his/her own. They are very dedicated to serving your needs and wants.
They tend to listen to you and focus on you more. It is not unusual to end up with a good friend that you know will always give you trusted advice whenever you seek it.

Real estate can make you rich. Right? You see infomercials on TV at all hours of the day and night making these promises. These systems might work in some markets some of the time.

However, real estate is not really a get rich quick scheme. Real estate is a great investment as a place to live. Be careful in your buying otherwise.

Southwest Florida real estate went through a growth spurt in the 2002-2005 time period. There were several reasons for this frenzy. Most of it was the media hype about baby boomers, low interest rates to spur the economy after 9-11, price escalation by builders caused by material costs, land costs, demand, low inventory and greed.

As a sales veteran in the market, I've seen some of our Florida home sale prices increase over 500% in 27 years. I've also seen homes, condos and lots purchased in the late 80's sell at a loss in the late 90's.

Our Fort Myers market has changed dramatically over the past year. Interest rates are still at relatively low levels, but continue to increase. Inventory of homes has skyrocketed.

Many investors jumped on the band wagon in 2003-2005 when inventories were low and people were standing line to buy homes for sale. Now, these investors are sellers and competing with builders and resale homes. This change in the market has caused builders to slow their new developments and offer dramatic incentives to reduce inventory of new homes and condos. This has also caused many investors to reduce their expectations of anticipated profits.

Although price reductions are common right now, who knows when it will turn around again as the demand for homes, condos and lots in our growing community increases. You might want to take advantage of the market now, rather than wait.
